Today’s Update

Tracy / December 13, 2013

In the middle of growing a baby, homeschool, house maintenance, and normal life, sometimes, I’m amazed at all the Lord allows us to finish each day!

I managed to fall asleep at 9:30 last night…much earlier than many nights. I still felt like we were able to accomplish many things.

I enjoyed a visit with my Grandmother. She was so sweet. We took her, her very first Christmas card of the season for her bulletin board.

Matthew was out with me for the morning. I told her how Paul generally prefers for me to travel with one of our bigger boys in case I need them while I’m out. She commented, “You know, no one ever really understood why you had so many children. It’s turned out to be really good for you.” 😀 YES! It most certainly has…it was wonderful to hear. I think it made my day.

We left there to pick up her Christmas gift and to look for one remaining gift I would like to purchase for my nephew (we’ve been finished with most of our Christmas, otherwise).

When we returned home, it was back to work. I had left school assignments for my children so they were done and were ready to help.

I did manage to grout the new bathroom floor.

Jacob hung the new closet door in what will be the little boy room downstairs.

The ceiling is so low, we’re going to have to figure out what to do about ceiling trim. Likewise, this doesn’t leave much clearance for flooring.

I’m now pondering tile?? Even tile will scrape the bottom of the doors.

So that leaves painting the floor and using rugs?

This is a link to an interesting paint idea:

My preference is actually acid staining them. (You can see some photos of acid stained flooring here: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/98727416805388588/ .)

If you notice from the photo, part of the floor is already painted. So how do I remove this paint for the stain that doesn’t require a pressure washer in my basement??

My friend Jan, and our dentist both have acid stained floors and they are absolutely beautiful.

I hate these decisions.

We did also turn the set of bi-fold doors in my room into french doors. I’ll post pictures of that a little later- I LOVE them!

At the end of the day, and all the work, Jessa and Timothy baked snowman cookies! You can’t get much better than a warm cookie at the end of a long day!! 😀

Today, we probably won’t finish quite so much. Our contractor is returning…maybe he’ll finish our back deck? I would like to tweak the doors re-worked yesterday. We have to homeschool. I have gifts to wrap. The children have their weekly art class. We’ll probably lay shelf paper, and hang a picture or two in the girl bathroom. We have to seal the grout we applied yesterday, install the new vent cover, begin to install the vanity and we purchased a new mirror from Home Depot yesterday for that bathroom. (Joshua will be trimming it for us this weekend!)

If it all goes well, we’re going to attend the neighborhood Christmas parade, and watch a Winnie the Pooh Christmas movie.

I’ve been thinking, these past few days, about 2014. This year was so unlike anything I could have expected. It has been full of joy and heartache for my family. Through all the Lord has been good. It is time to start looking toward the new year.

Are you making plans??

  1. I love this post 🙂 i do want to know how you made the decision to have so many children and I’m only asking because i have four girls and i really do want a boy but i just am very undecided . some days i feel like i could have as many children as you have and other days it gets so hectic with my girls i cry lol. Your house is coming along beautifully that’s what we will be doing in 2014 lord willing we will be moving and building onto our new tiny house lolits smaller than what we have now but hopfully we can build on enough to make it as big as we want i hope we can get as much accomplished in one day as you do 🙂

    1. Liz, I’ve posted about that in the past. I’ll see if I can dig up that post and send you a link. It was really a journey for us.

  2. Jan will probably be more help here, but our painted and stained concrete floors peeled. I have been pretty happy with the peel and stick stuff I got from Lowe’s, have you noticed it? It seems to be pretty durable, VERY easy to put down, and easy to clean. You can get it in lots of different finishes and it is very thin so it may fit under your door.

    1. Do you have a moisture issue on your lower floor, Jennifer?? I think we may…we’re having to figure that out as we spend more time down there. Obviously, we’re going to have to find a way to dry it all out. In the meantime, I think the peel and sticks may be a good option. I don’t remember seeing your floor- Courtney said it was really nice. I may ask you more about it in the coming weeks.
