the letter “l”

Tracy / September 3, 2013

I love Pinterest.

I do find myself wondering how I ever survived without Pinterest.

Yes, I know it sounds pathetic, but wow!  The ideas, the recipes, the decorating…it’s addictive.

This week, I planned a special treat…a Pinterest project with my good friend, Christy.

I wanted to make a button “L” for my living room.

I used a frame, she used a canvas (which turned out really pretty!).

So, this is what you need:

  • frame (with or without mat)
  • adhesive (I used hot glue but if you are going to hang your picture outside or store it in your attic, you may want to consider something else)
  • buttons (Walmart sells an  assortment bag for around $5.  The buttons are sorted by color families so they coordinate well for a project like this one.)
  • burlap
  • pencil/sharpie/anything to trace your letter

Here’s how:

Enlarge your initial to fit the space you want to fill.  (Be sure to check the sizing if you will be using a frame with a mat.)

(You might also use a letter you already have.  Just trace it onto your burlap.)

Cut out the letter and trace it onto the burlap.

Lay the buttons out on to your letter.

Adhese the buttons on to the burlap.

Frame your letter!

It was that easy!  I’m using it as part of our fall decor this year. It hangs over the old Story and Clark piano in our living room.

It was SO easy and turned out great.

This is Christy’s letter, if you would like to see the canvas version:

There were several on Pinterest worked on canvas in pinks and blues for baby gifts.  They would make a sweet, personal gift idea for a new little one.
