fall chicks

We’ve been keeping chickens for around 4 years.

I love our flock! They do the funniest things, and provide relaxing entertainment on any afternoon.

(This picture is so funny….he was watching me to make sure I wasn’t going to get too close to his ladies.)

At the moment, we have 25 grown hens. About 5 or 6 are not quite laying age.

Jacob has been selling eggs to some of his friends. It seems to be a growing little business!

We just purchased 25 new chicks and have additional chicks arriving next week.

This was Jessica trying to nurture the little chick that was so weak. She died late last night.

I heard a statistic once that the hatcheries expect 1 of every 3 chicks to die. We normally don’t lost that many…in fact, this has been the first time we’ve lost this many chicks in a shipment. (Two arrived dead. One died within half and hour and this one died yesterday.)

I’ll probably stick with Murray McMurray in the future!
