We were *shocked* when a friend wrote to tell me her son saw a black bear sitting in the road that leads past our home.

I didn’t know we had bear here!

I found this great website and phoned to ask questions. The gentleman told me there have been black bear here for years. Depending on the person you ask, some have never seen a bear and don’t know they are here and others say “oh yeah, there are bear”.

They generally have a report filed every 4-5 years.

Black bear in Alabama are generally shy and stay off, away from humans.

It’s true, you learn something new everyday…today is no exception for me!
