Home Management…3/26 Update

I’m *so* very behind on my book reviews.

I probably should have stuck Large Family Logistics on the bottom of my list for this year. I knew when I picked the book up, I would be there for a while. 🙂

I’ve already read through the book once, but I decided it was worth reading through again and this time with the intention of trying out some of her ideas for home management.

Since it’s Monday morning, I don’t have time to write a full review, but I thought it would be fun to share this week’s assignment and progress!

According to the book, this is “living room/family room” week. This means these areas will have a deep cleaning this week as well, on Saturday, the assignment is to look at the room and decide on something that would help the room look nicer or more “homey”. In addition, there is a bedroom assignment this week. We’ll be cleaning ceiling fans, cobwebs, and light switches. Of course, one day is also devoted to laundry and a general scrub-down of the house.

I have found I look forward to having these Saturday projects. It gives me extra motivation to tidy everything so we can tackle some project that’s needed to be done.

This past Saturday, we bought a dishwasher from Craig’s List.

Josh and Courtney took Matthew to pick it up. Later that day, Jacob installed it, and then installed these two light fixtures in the family room!

If you’ve visited my home, you know these look WAY better than the hanging light and the broken ceiling fan that were here when we moved in!

I framed a picture for my bedroom from a recent trip with Paul, and hung a wreath I made from some of the roses that Paul gave me for our 17th anniversary (yes, shamefully, I’ve had them just hanging waiting to make my wreath for that long….).

I also added grapevine to my bedroom curtain rod (I need a different rod for this, but I’m not ready for that just yet!). I made it from a thrift store grapevine wreath.

Since last week was bedroom week, we’ve done little things to all the bedrooms…including patching the terribly out-dated room our littles sleep in- we’re preparing it for paint.

This week, I have goals for hanging our baby pictures in the living room (I have to find enough frames first!), and maybe finishing the trim around the floor of that room.

The family room needs lots of work, I’m praying about where the Lord would have me work in that room this week. The windows need to be cleaned from the outside and we have a window unit (air conditioner) that needs to be mounted before summer. Aside from that, I’m not sure!

This entire home management system has given us a much more efficient system for working in our home.

I’m going to try to post a full review in upcoming days, but until then, if you have considered this book, it’s quickly becoming a favorite in my home!
