School Supplies….So Far

This is the start to the Lambert school supplies (minus textbooks) for the year. I still need to purchase loose leaf paper, rulers, colored pencils, pencils, pens and some additional small learning activities for the littles in my home.

I know it seems like a bunch, but in contrast, if we had the six school aged children in our home going to public school, my list would be huge and filled with things like printer paper, Purell, Kleenex and toilet paper. I personally think we’re getting a bargain.

For those of you with children in public school, I feel for you. I still don’t understand why I pay taxes for my children to be in school (as are the many home schooling parents), and even with that additional money, you have to purchase the above mentioned items, plus much more, for your children to receive their “free” education. It doesn’t make sense.

If anyone has one of these school supply lists, I would love a copy of it to post. I think it should make all of us question where the money is going!

There is an additional post after this one today. It is an article by Marsha West. Deborah M.(in AL) sent me a link to it Friday (thanks Deborah!!) and I thought it was *VERY* applicable to my posting on Friday so I wrote and asked Ms. West if she would mind me posting it for you today. She was glad to let me post it….it’s a great read for anyone embarrassed to walk through their local Walmart these days (or for that matter, to go into a church!).

We had a good weekend. Paul has been taken off over time for a month ….this is giving us a great chance to get caught up on some much needed things around our home as well as the small businesses that we’ve started.

This particular weekend found him beginning the repairs of our fridge…something that he knew nothing about prior to this. I’m so proud of him, he is getting so brave at “diving right in” and learning as he goes. He’s probably saved us thousands of dollars by trying to repair things in our home himself. He’ll be the first to tell you that this doesn’t mean he doesn’t make mistakes….he’s learning and it’s just like anything else, with each new mistake comes a new lesson learned.

Prayer Requests

Productive week in my home.

We are still waiting to hear from our business mentor…please pray that this process would move a little faster and that we would hear from him.

My friend Sherri’s family…they’ve had a very rough time this last few months.

My Mom is back at work this week after a long vacation…please pray that all will go smoothly for her.

The Greenlaw’s little boy is going to the Dr. this morning. His Mom thinks he might have a sinus infection.

Today, I’m Thankful For

The sewing I worked on over the weekend.

An early start this morning.

Possible rain this afternoon.

The pitter-patter of little feet (though they sound like Fred Flinstone) in the morning across my kitchen floor.

The progress that I’m making on our schedule and chore packs for the upcoming school year.

Tracy’s Tasks

I’m working on organizing greeting cards this week. I always try to have lots of extra cards for all occasions on hand. This week I’m going to figure out what I need for all of our upcoming holidays.

Current and Hallmark (I think) both sell great greeting card organizers. If you’ve never seen one, they come in two forms: as a book with pockets and as a box with dividers. You can organize the cards in several different ways (my favorite is by month). I’ll post a picture of my card organizer in the Lines From The Vine yahoo groups photo folder for anyone who would like to know what they look like.

This has saved me so much time (and money)….I very rarely (if ever) have to go and purchase cards at the last minute.

What I’m Learning

Along the lines of my latest post topics….when did beach volleyball become an official sport? …And, who designed THOSE swimsuits…or can they really even be called that? Is it just me, or does it seem that people are coming up with more and more ways to wear as little as possible??

I found out this morning that there is some kind of volleyball championship being held in my area this week. For whatever reason, they are bringing in truck loads of sand and ads are plastered everywhere. UGH! This is just one of the reasons that I prefer the winter months…

Today’s Scripture Meditation

John 3:3-8

“In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” “How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
(NIV)
