How Does Your Garden Grow?

Tracy / January 11, 2015

It’s amazing to me we manage to grow vegetables though the winter- especially when we have struggled since moving to this house with our spring garden. Still, we have lettuce and spinach. We made a small investment into plants earlier in the fall. It continues to pay for itself! (We normally pay $5 for a container of salad at SAM’s…

When You Don’t Have Eggs…

there is probably a VERY good reason: Jacob was out on the back deck working on some school assignments this week after dark. He heard the hens and went to investigate. There were three sets of eyes staring back at him, (not from the hens). When he realized what they were, it was immediately obvious why we’ve not been finding…

Composting Chickens

Tracy / September 8, 2013

This is a short video on composting with chickens. We give our chickens all of our food scraps, pulled weeds, some raked leaves and hay. We also throw in DRYER LINT! They are incredibly efficient at breaking it all down and come late winter and spring when we are ready to begin working on garden beds we have an abundance…

Group Gardening…

A blessing… Have I mentioned how much I love our neighbors?? They are friends, and they are family. We love them. I can’t tell you how many times they have popped over to help. On this particular afternoon they helped weed and plant a good chunk of our garden. It really is true, many hands make the work light. Their…

Tracy / September 24, 2011

It seems so long since I’ve updated this site. Dial-up is another world when you are used to high-speed internet. I can’t tell you how difficult it is do accomplish simple tasks…things like banking, using the library or just checking store hours. Websites just aren’t being made to use dial-up anymore. If you are trying to blog, or use fb,…

Potato Harvest

We’re finally finding time to harvest our potatoes. We probably would have left them in the beds a little longer, but the last round of storms brought down several big branches that killed the vines. We harvested a ton of potatoes. This one was Ben’s favorite! He found his own letter “T”. 🙂

1st Potato

This is our 1st “found” potato. It wasn’t exactly meant to be pulled. We had sent the little boys to weed one of the garden beds. Their instructions didn’t exactly match their actions. Thankfully, we caught them before any more were dug up…. In any case, we’re proud. Hopefully, we’ll be pulling up many more soon!!
