How Does Your Garden Grow?

Tracy / January 11, 2015

It’s amazing to me we manage to grow vegetables though the winter- especially when we have struggled since moving to this house with our spring garden.

Still, we have lettuce and spinach. We made a small investment into plants earlier in the fall. It continues to pay for itself! (We normally pay $5 for a container of salad at SAM’s every two weeks.)

These are planted in long planter boxes on our back deck. We don’t even have to walk into the yard to gather produce! These are the same boxes we’ve been using for years to plant our carrots. We change the soil out from time to time and add compost.

Do you grow veggies through the colder months?

  1. Looks yummy!
Did I ever tell you about the year I planted Romaine? It was delicious. I loved it. The deer did, too:( It’s really the only time we had trouble with deer in the garden. One day when we came home from church, there was a deer eating my salad. I gave Brandon “the look”. He took care of it and we got meat AND a salad!
    I’m not sure if that’s a good story…

  2. Jennifer, that is sad. And hilarious. 🙂 It gave me a good laugh. Poor deer. You can choose your actions, but you can’t choose the consequences!
