Many Hands

“Many hands make the work light”, right?

I don’t think I have ever been so grateful for all these folks, as I am this week.

We’re trying to beat the cold and wet weather coming to Alabama soon. Today, it’s a comfortable day to be working outside. I think the next few days are supposed to bring rain and colder weather. Paul and I thought it would be better to have some of these things finished (at least mostly finished!), before that bad weather arrived.

We’re on a learning curve here. It’s our first experience with a paint sprayer. We’ve learned that drop cloths only work so well…and I may have forgotten to cover those first shrubs when we started painting.

Paul worked with Matthew for a while yesterday to make sure he was prepared for the job.

Matthew stepped up to learn to use the sprayer. I initially thought we would finish half the porch yesterday and the rest today. He worked almost all day yesterday and after dark last night, we were only left with a small portion of the porch needing paint. I’m so proud of him…he works like a man.

Today, we will be finishing the sprayed areas and the cut work. I will have to go through and repaint the floor in some areas (next time we paint the floor last!).
Matthew is finishing the porch this morning. Jacob is working on the other side to install the two porch lights (we will still need to add two outdoor ceiling fans).
Joshua was out before work this morning draping our rock retaining wall.

Courtney has been mixing paint and taping off areas for detail painting.

Paul and Jon (around his school work), are installing more lighting in the basement and outlets so we can (hopefully!) move our extra freezer and fridge down today.

I have to maintain our home, supervise the painting, decide where my kitchen windows will be installed, school the children, and begin sorting through winter clothing. It’s going to be a full day!

On top of all of that, the contractor has shown up to begin siding the garage side of our home. He’s waiting on Matthew to finish the rails on that side. By the end of the day, we’re hoping to have a new attic window and for the siding to have begun.

All of it makes me tired, but it’s a good tired. It will be wonderful to see it all done. When the rain starts, I may slowly sip cup of hot tea and not move for a while.

Anyone want to come help paint?? 😀

  1. Matthew certainly is a good hard worker as we have been blessed enough to see that firsthand! I wouldn’t have any doubts about him using the sprayer.
And – WOW! I can’t believe how much that brightened up your house! It looks beautiful. I know it’s exciting for you.

  2. Thank you, Jennifer! I’m so proud of him!
The house definitely looks better. I think it’s probably bad that now I’m looking at the shrubs thinking we really need to have some landscaping now. 😛
I’m not sure this will ever stop!
