More Herbs!

I woke up excited this morning! Last evening we went to the store and purchased all the supplies for our first 4 foot by 4 foot garden. Paul is going to assemble my frame this evening and then the fun begins. Maybe I’ll share pictures a little later.

Last evening, I also purchased lemon thyme and oregano. In my community, I’ve learned the hard way, that Lowe’s has much better looking plants than Home Depot. I wish that I would have known sooner. I would have waited to purchase the herbs from over the weekend.

We love to cook with herbs. Aside from making food taste really good, the added benefit is medicinal. According to Mark Tierno’s Medicinal Herbs Database, oregano used in cooking is good for: colds, flu, digestion, potent antioxidant, glaucoma, HIV, arthritis antibacterial, expectorant, emphysema and lemon thyme can be used to treat: anxiety, gallbladder, and stomach ailments.

I still have some other herbs I would like to see added, but honestly, I think that I might run out of room before I can plant them!!

On another note, Gurney’s (www.Gurneys.com) is running a HUGE berry sale. It seems that some of them are marked as much as 1/2 off. Today, I’m pondering the purchase of 6 blackberry bushes and 2 plum trees. I only have so much yard so I have to weigh this very carefully.

My ultimate goal is to provide a good amount of food for my family from my very own yard. It is important to my family budget as well as to teach us all a way of self sustainable living. As a nation, we have grown overly dependent on many things…it’s important to remember we may not always have the life we live now. Learning to grow your own food is not only beneficial financially but much healthier for you (especially if you don’t use pesticides and chemical fertilizers, etc.). It is also a skill that we should work toward teaching our children.

Prayer Requests

For us, a very productive day…we, as always, have quite a list we’re working from!

My Mom, has been invited to display her art in several places. She is going to place them today and tomorrow. She would love to see some business from it!

Paul, needs to wrap us some loose ends this week.

The Schultz family who is trying to pick up the pieces and restart life after the passing of their husband/dad.

The Shepherds are expecting a new (#9) baby! (You can visit their site at www.ShepherdsJourney.com). We are so thrilled for them! Please be praying for strength and health for Ruthanne!

Today, I’m Thankful For

I don’t think that I’ve killed anything in my garden yet….always a good and *unexpected* pleasure.

The energy that I have this morning following a late night last night. “Lord, I’m not sure where the energy is coming from but Thank You!”

So far, so good, on our new family budget!

Rain? Rain? Anyone…Rain? I’m just going to say that I’m pre-thankful for the coming rain…we need rain for all our plant babies….

The Martins! I love this family! Dennis (Dad) gave us a good chuckle over the weekend. We just happened upon his site: www.mrpotatohead.net . We were totally taken off guard when we saw his picture, but,…we would have expected no less…he is a HUGE potato head fan (you would have to see his room).

Tracy’s Task

Take the time today to create an inventory sheet for your holiday planner that includes a running list of items you currently have stocked in your gift closet.

What I’m Learning

And now for today’s picture….I’m learning that you never grow tired of watching a baby try to uncover themselves….this picture was taken over the weekend when I pulled the back of Emma’s dress up over her head (yes, I know it was mean!). She had so much fun trying to figure out how to get out from under it that we couldn’t resist snapping a picture!

Today’s Scripture Meditation

2 Tim 3:1-5

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God–having a form of godliness but denying its power.”

You may recognize this one…it is from yesterday….I think that I wanted to revisit it. It makes me think so much of what I see going on around me now. I’m going to be thinking and pondering this one a little more today.
